Someone pointed me to This Photo that looks most original of them all. Almost without JPEG artifacts.
This is how the "originals" look, side by side:
The Difference The difference is in the text written on the piece of carboard the boy on the right is holding. One the left picture, the words "killed my dad" are where the latter says "saved my dad".
Also, the former says "knocked up my Sister" where the latter says "rescued my Sister"
There are other differences, such as the image on the left has more JPEG arrtifacts, f.ex. around the name "Boudreaux" and the words "killed" and "Syster" but the image on the left also has more details in it, which can be verified by zoming in, for example on the yellow area on the left side of the photos.
Another thing is that if the arabic letters on the left photo are removed, and the right one then scaled to the same width as the left one, it results in two missing lines on the bottom, that are not just a result of the resize, but do contain information that is not in the image on the right. This means that the image on the left can not have been made by modifying the image in the right.
You can download a Gimp file including the two images HERE, where the two images have been put in different layers for comparison.
Let's take a closer look:
The Letters #1 Obviously, both can't be the original one. How about handwriting ?
If we look at the letters that appear both in the different words "Killed", "Knocked", "saved" and "rescued", and in other text, we first see that the words "Killed" and "Knocked" are written with a capital letter first. Which looks more in line with the rest of the text (the words "Dad" and"Syster" also have capital letters first.)
The two "u" letters is his name (Boudreaux) are also consistent, while the "u" letter in "rescued" looks more like a vertically mirrored copy of the "v" letter in "saved", in the right image.
The Letters #2
The "d" letters in the left image are all consistent, while the "d"'s look different in the words "saved" and "rescued" in the right image. The "d" in "rescued" looks a bit strange, like it was made by combining lines in other letters ?
Image Size
If the larger (Right) image is resized to fit the width of the smaller one (750 pixels), and the text at the bottom of the left image is removed. The right image is still two rows smaller than the Left one.
"Killed my dad" becomes 750x527
"Saved my dad" becomes 750x525
And as can be seen from the image below, the two additional lines contain extra information that is not found in the right image.
It is thus impossible that the left image was made by manipulating the right one.
Conclusion:
It loks like the image on the right, is a modification of the image on the left.
Since the left image does contain more JPEG artifacts, it might at first seem likely that it is the other way around, but other things such as more details in the left photo seem to indicate that the right image has been "blurred" in Photoshop.
However, that doesn't mean that the image in the left is the Original one. It could well be a modification of yet another image we haven't seen yet.
